You will be informed of the costs transparently and at the outset — no hidden costs.
We understand the importance of providing a professional, efficient and courteous service to all our clients.
We are committed to providing a high-quality legal service to all our clients. If something goes wrong, we need you to tell us about it — it helps us resolve your concern and improve our standards. Here is how we will deal with a complaint.
We will send you a letter to confirm whether we have sufficient information to deal with your complaint. If so, we begin our investigation (step 2). If not, we will ask for the further information we need before starting.
We will endeavour to investigate fully within 10–15 working days of receiving the confirmation letter or any further information required. If we cannot complete it in that time, we will explain why and tell you when we expect to finish. We will then send a detailed reply and invite you to a meeting.
The purpose of the meeting is to try to resolve your complaint. We will offer it within around 10 working days of the letter in step 2, and rearrange if the date, time or place is not convenient. If you would prefer not to meet, we will offer to discuss the matter by telephone.
Within 3 working days of the meeting or telephone discussion, we will write to confirm what was said, our suggestion for resolving the matter, and any solution we have agreed with you.
If you are still not satisfied, you can write to us again within one month of our letter. We will review our decision and write to let you know the result within around 10 working days of receiving your request.
If you are not satisfied with the review, please write again within one month. With your consent, we will arrange for an experienced solicitor from another, unconnected firm — or a recognised dispute resolution body — to review your complaint and give a written opinion, at our cost. We will confirm the result within 5 working days of the review ending.
The Legal Ombudsman can help if we are unable to resolve your complaint ourselves. They will look at it independently, and it will not affect how we handle your case. You must usually contact them within six months of our final response, and no more than six years from the act or omission (or three years from when you should reasonably have known there was cause for complaint).
The Solicitors Regulation Authority can help if you are concerned about our behaviour — for example dishonesty, mishandling your money, or unfair treatment because of your age, a disability or another characteristic. Visit www.sra.org.uk to raise your concerns.
